General Position Summary
The MSC WBAC Chair is responsible for equipping the leadership team and members with the necessary skills to fulfill our purpose of enhancing the understanding of the culture, contributions, and impact on society of people of African descent by providing educational and community-building programs and experiences for the Texas A&M University communities.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Acts as Chief Student Leader (see MSC Council Officer Responsibilities).
- Provides professional development to leadership team through: 1) trainings on SLLOs at leadership meetings, 2) assists with workdays, and 3) attends Fall Leadership Conference and selects one leader to attend with them.
- Runs effective and efficient leadership meetings during academic year (weekly) and summer (monthly).
- Supervises vice chairs and directors.
- Implement best practices in fiscal responsibility, risk management, project management, delegation and critical thinking into all aspect of planning and facilitation of projects.
Expectations of MSC WBAC Leaders
- Attends weekly executive leadership and leadership team meetings.
- Understands/Implements MSCC policies and procedures.
- Accomplishes assigned tasks.
- Prepares and is punctual for all meetings and events.
- Asks questions / Provides feedback.
- Articulates information accurately.
- Respects others.
- Engages general committee members throughout academic year.
- Informs Advisor of additional priorities that may interfere MSC WBAC commitments in a timely manner.
- Receives/Provides constructive criticism.
- Contributes to the overall growth and wellbeing of the committee.
Significant changes or additional functions for this position in the upcoming year
- Critical matter - Increase membership by recruiting new members
- Secure additional financial contributions particularly from former students
Minimum Requirements
- One year of MSCC leadership experience or equivalent.
- Commitment of 10 hours per week to position and associated responsibilities.

Program Assembly
| All MSCC Officers come together for special topic meetings - Business, Program and Membership. You will serves as voting member and contributes to the vision and direction of the MSC Council.

| This is a high level decision meeting. You will plan and lead this meeting with Vice Chairs and advisor.

| This is a leadership meeting to get updates on programs and GCM involvement. You will plan and lead this meeting with Vice Chairs, Directors and Advisor.

General Committee Member (GCM)
| This is a time for the entire committee to get together for updates, information and fellowship. You may be called upon to participate during meeting, but meeting agenda is the responsibility of Vice Chair of Recruitment & Retention.

Required MSCC Officer Responsibilities
- Represent the MSC Council: As a student leader in the MSC Council, your actions are a direct reflection and representation of the organization and our values. Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s programs and goals to ensure alignment with those of the MSC Council.
- Alignment with the MSC Programs mission: MSC Programs will prioritize support for programs, experiences, and student leadership opportunities that reflect and align with its mission of engaging students in providing purposefully designed campus programs and service opportunities that prepare them to be global leaders.
- Attend Weekly Monday Night Meetings: When creating your academic schedule, please be mindful of your requirement to attend Program Assembly meetings every Monday night at 6pm.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year including the Summer.
- Attend Leadership Launch (& August Leadership Refresher): Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: Each committee is assigned an advisor by MSC Programs. Through that advisor, MSC Programs and the MSC Council are committed to strong student/staff partnerships and built upon the idea that there is mutuality in teaching and learning and that advisors and students see each other as a resource; each group offering what it uniquely can provide.
