MSC Council President
General summary of this position:
The MSC Council President is the chief student leader of the Memorial Student Center Council. The MSC Council President shall be responsible for chairing the MSC Council Stakeholders and leading the MSC Council Executive Team. The MSCC President shall: Lead the MSCC Officers in the operations of the MSCC and shall represent the MSCC to a variety of external audiences. They will provide leadership and direction for the MSCC by developing and implementing short and long-term visions, lead the annual goal-setting process, oversee internal processes and policies, and develop unity and camaraderie within the MSCC. They will also attend and support the MSCC and other campus programs and serve as a spokesperson for the MSCC and as a liaison between Texas A&M University administration and MSCC. They will work with student leaders across campus to provide the student perspective on university issues, stay up to date on current events at Texas A&M, and work extensively with student leaders outside MSCC to represent student interests. They shall also assist with development efforts by meeting and speaking with potential donors for both programs and committees.
Minimum Requirement: One year of MSCC Leadership experience or equivalent. Ability to serve for 12 months minimum, including the academic year and parts of breaks. The term shall begin immediately upon selection, but the official transition of office occurs after Muster.

Job Duties

Internal Relations | Regular interaction with: MSC Programs Director, MSCC Executive Team, MSCC Officers, Student members of MSCC, MSC Advisors and Support Staff, Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, Texas A&M University administration, attendance at MSCC programs, meetings with prospective and interested students. |
Administration | Emails, time spent preparing for meetings, time leading meetings, time attending meetings, planning agendas and driving and assessing where we are with regard to the mission and vision of the organization. |
External Relations | Interaction with Student Body President and other student leaders to discuss and influence campus affairs. Articles for the Battalion, local newspaper interviews, providing quotes, development events, speaking at Aggie Mother's clubs, speaking at Reveille Club, MSCP Tailgates, serving as an ambassador for the MSCC, former student relations, and other miscellaneous University events. Maintaining relationships with third-party organizations such as the Association of Former Students, the Texas A&M Foundation, Student Government Association (Committees, Senate, Commissions, Judicial Court), Greek Life Councils, Multicultural Councils, Fish Camp, BUILD, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Class Councils, Misc. College Councils, etc. In addition, it is highly suggested to be connected with external Advisors as well. |
Other expectations and benefits:
Staying up to date on MSCC programs, discussions in committee teams, and management of Executive Team officers. Work to make sure we are supporting each other while serving the student body. Creating a welcoming environment of collaboration and understanding and a sense of family. It is the responsibility of the President to help set the culture of the MSCC and ensure that students buy into the organization as a whole (Council and its 17 affiliated organizations) and encourage that they give back throughout their professional lives.
It is very important to get to know all advisors and officers. It is critical to be receptive to the problems that they may be having, and do what you can to help as a high-impact student leader.
The amount of work that is required varies throughout the semester depending on when there are big projects or a lot of events to prepare for. The average amount of time to expect to spend each week inclusive of weekends is about 30 hours. This is in addition to balancing classes, a job, and/or other commitments. The role of MSC President is a very significant time commitment, therefore some benefits include a parking pass to the University Center Garage and approximately $500 stipend per semester

Required MSC Council Officer Responsibilities:
- Represent the MSC Council: As a student leader in the MSC Council, your actions are a direct reflection and representation of the organization and our values. Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s programs and goals to ensure alignment with those of the MSC Council.
- Alignment with the MSC Programs mission: MSC Programs will prioritize support for programs, experiences, and student leadership opportunities that reflect and align with its mission of engaging students in providing purposefully designed campus programs and service opportunities that prepare them to be global leaders.
- Attend Weekly Monday Night Meetings: When creating your academic schedule, please be mindful of your requirement to attend Program Assembly meetings every Monday night at 6pm.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year including the Summer.
- Attend Leadership Launch (& August Leadership Refresher): Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: Each committee is assigned an advisor by MSC Programs. Through that advisor, MSC Programs and the MSC Council are committed to strong student/staff partnerships and built upon the idea that there is mutuality in teaching and learning and that advisors and students see each other as a resource; each group offering what it uniquely can provide.
