
Chair - MSC Spencer Leadership Conference
General Position Summary
- Set vision and goals for committee.
- Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings. Ensure collaboration amongst directors, advisor and staff. Address any personnel issues on staff or in members.
- Develop staff to be stronger leaders.
- Communicate with host sites for conference and other duties as needed.
- Ensure that all staff members carry out duties.

Job Duties

Conference Planning | Set vision and goals for conference. Ensure effective communication is occurring between directors in coordinating programs. Assist with various tasks as needed. |
Representing MSC Spencer | Share on behalf of the organization what you/your team is working on, how you are facilitating growth, and how MSC Spencer is representing the MSC Mission and Values. |

Managing a staff of directors, giving constructive feedback, setting appropriate goals and tasks, etc.
Required Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills
This job requires someone who is self-starting. There is no clear procedure for how to be a successful chair and it relies heavily on your own instinct. It also requires a high amount of organization. You are responsible for planning and coordinating a high-quality conference There are deadlines that need to be met and organization is an advantage. The chair should have adequate people skills and be able to unite various strengths and personalities to pursue a common goal. The chair should be a flexible thinker and problem solver.
Preferred experience, knowledge, and/or skills:
It is helpful to have experience planning the MSC Spencer Leadership Conference or similar conference type events, and experience with logistics and risk mitigation.
Required MSC Council Officer Responsibilities:
- Represent the MSC Council: As a student leader in the MSC Council, your actions are a direct reflection and representation of the organization and our values. Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s programs and goals to ensure alignment with those of the MSC Council.
- Alignment with the MSC Programs mission: MSC Programs will prioritize support for programs, experiences, and student leadership opportunities that reflect and align with its mission of engaging students in providing purposefully designed campus programs and service opportunities that prepare them to be global leaders.
- Attend Weekly Monday Night Meetings: When creating your academic schedule, please be mindful of your requirement to attend Program Assembly meetings every Monday night at 6pm.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year including the Summer.
- Attend Leadership Launch (& August Leadership Refresher): Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: Each committee is assigned an advisor by MSC Programs. Through that advisor, MSC Programs and the MSC Council are committed to strong student/staff partnerships and built upon the idea that there is mutuality in teaching and learning and that advisors and students see each other as a resource; each group offering what it uniquely can provide.
