Memorial Student Center Council
Director of Visual Communications
General Summary of this Position:
This position serves as the primary visual storyteller for the MSC Council, responsible for capturing and editing high-quality photo and video content at major program events and notable events hosted by MSCC organizations. The Director of Visual Communications will attend key events selected in coordination with the VP of Marketing to ensure that each organization receives meaningful representation and celebration on Instagram and other social platforms, without needing to cover every event from every org. Beyond event coverage, this position will collaborate with the VP of Marketing on larger creative projects, including interviews, advertising content, and longer-form features, contributing both technical filming skills and creative input during the brainstorming process. Edited footage and images will be submitted promptly to the Marketing team for further development.
Minimum Requirement:
Must have access to and own a personal video-capable camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or similar) suitable for both photo and video capture in a variety of lighting conditions.
Meeting Requirements:
| Meeting Type | Meeting Description | Frequency |
| MSCC Marketing Team | Align on marketing priorities | As needed |
| MSCC Marketing VP 1:1s | Specific goal-setting and project development | As needed |
Learning Outcomes: What skills or knowledge is the individual in this position expected to gain?
This position offers hands-on experience in event photography and videography, including capturing candid action shots and key moments under real-time, fast-paced conditions. The individual will build skills in visual storytelling and brand representation across multiple student organizations, learn to manage relationships with event coordinators and directors, and gain exposure to the creative process behind larger-scale video productions such as interviews and advertising content. This role also develops time management and prioritization skills, since the individual must, in coordination with the VP of Marketing, select which events to attend based on organizational impact rather than covering every event.
Preferred experience, knowledge, and/or skills:
Prior experience operating a personal DSLR, mirrorless, or similar video-capable camera, including basic manual settings such as exposure, focus, and framing, is preferred. Familiarity with photo and video editing software, or a willingness to learn, is a plus. Strong communication skills are helpful for coordinating with event directors and working collaboratively with the Marketing team, along with reliability and the ability to work independently while attending events outside of regular team meetings.
