Description

The Aggie Arthouse and SWAMP Filmmaking Club will be hosting a screening of Charles Burnett's Killer of Sheep (1978) followed by a virtual Q&A with the acclaimed director. The event will take place at 6 PM on February 6th.

Charles Burnett is widely regarded as one of the most important American filmmakers, and a central figure of the L.A. Rebellion movement. Killer of Sheep is often cited by critics and scholars as one of the greatest independent films ever made for its honest, humane portrayal of Black working-class life. In 2017, Burnett received an Honorary Academy Award in recognition of his lifelong contributions to cinema, and his work is frequently praised by filmmakers and critics for its quiet power, emotional depth, and cultural significance.

The Aggie Arthouse

We are a film society founded on the TAMU Campus. Our mission is to organize screenings of foreign, independent, and classic cinema and market the events to the greater student body of Texas A&M to bring together an inclusive and diverse community of movie lovers. In doing so, we hope to broaden viewers' perspectives and encourage conversation amongst peers through exposing them to wide variety of eras, countries, languages, cultures, genres and attitudes right on our own campus.
