MSC President
General summary of this position:
The MSC President is the chief student leader of the Memorial Student Center. The MSC President shall be responsible for chairing the MSC Board of Directors and leading the MSC Executive Team. The MSC President shall: Lead the MSC Officers in the operations of the MSC and shall represent the MSC to a variety of external audiences. Provide leadership and direction for the MSC by developing and implementing a short and long term vision. Leads annual goal setting process, overseeing processes and policies, while developing unity and camaraderie within the MSC. Attend and support the MSC and other university programs. Serve as a spokesperson for the MSC, student body and/or Texas A&M University when appropriate; also serve as a liaison between Texas A&M University administration and student body. Works with student leaders across campus to provide student perspective on university issues. Stay up to date on current events at Texas A&M. Work extensively with student leaders outside MSC to represent student interests. Assist with development efforts by meeting and speaking with potential donors for both programs and committees.
Minimum Requirement: One year of MSC Leadership experience or equivalent.

Job Duties
Duty Title | Description |
Internal Relations | Regular interaction with: MSC Director, MSC Executive Team, MSC Officers, Student members of MSC, MSC Advisors and Support Staff, Vice President of Student Affairs Office, Texas A&M University President and staff members, attendance at MSC Programs, meetings with prospective and interested students. |
Administration | Emails, time spent preparing for meetings, time leading meetings, time attending meetings, planning agendas and driving and assessing where we are with regards to the mission and vision of the organization. |
External Relations | Interaction with Student Body President and other student leaders to discuss and influence campus affairs. Articles for the Battalion, local newspaper interviews, providing quotes, development events, speaking at Aggie Mother's clubs, speaking at Reveille Club, MSC Tailgates, serving as an ambassador for the MSC, former student relations, and other miscellaneous University events. |
Other expectations and benefits:
Staying up to date on MSC programs, discussions in committee teams, and management of Executive Team officers. Work to make sure we are supporting each other while serving the student body. Creating a welcoming environment of collaboration and understanding and a sense of family. It is the responsibility of the President to help set the culture of the MSC and ensure that students buy into the department as a whole and encourage that they give back throughout their professional lives.
It is very important to get to know all advisors and officers. It is critical to be receptive to the problems that they may be having, and do what you can to help as a student.
The amount of work that is required varies throughout the semester depending on when there are big projects or a lot of events to prepare for. An average amount of time to expect to spend each week inclusive of weekends is about 25 hours. This is in addition to balancing classes, a job, and/or other commitments. The role of MSC President is a very significant time commitment, therefore some benefits include a parking pass to the University Center Garage and approximately $500 stipend per semester.
Required MSC Officer Responsibilities:
- Represent the MSC – Student Programs Office: As a student leader in the MSC Student Programs Office, you are a reflection of the department and our MSC Values.
- Attend Weekly Monday Night Meetings: When creating your academic schedule, please be mindful of your requirement to attend Program Assembly meetings every Monday night at 6pm. While not required to attend, the MSC President is strongly encouraged to do so.
- Assist with MSC Committee Alignment to Memorial Student Center: Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s goals and year to ensure departmental alignment.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year from Fall to Spring.
- Attend Leadership Launch: Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Represent your committee at Unity Dinner: Unity Dinner is a way to bring all outgoing and incoming officers to gain an understanding and awareness of diversity in leadership.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: The MSC Student Programs Office operates under a unique 1:1 relationship between student and advisor.
