Vice President of Diversity (Diversity Education)
Job Summary
The Vice President of Diversity (Diversity Education) is responsible for effectively implementing the MSC Diversity Plan. This position promotes a non-discriminatory and harassment-free environment by coordinating learning opportunities for MSC members that are consistent with the university’s compliance with federal and state laws for the protected classes. This position is a highly visible role and is integral to the development, effectiveness and efficiency of diversity measures. The Vice President of Diversity Education manages the design, development, delivery, analysis and maintenance of diversity education programs.
Minimum Requirements
- One year of MSC experience or equivalent.
- Commitment of 10 hours per week to position and associated responsibilities.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and oral) with a proven track record of facilitating conversations and mediating varying opinions.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of project management.

Significant changes or additional functions for this position in the upcoming year:
- Collaborate with the MSC HR Resource Team to host a “SPOcial” social event semesterly.
Required MSC Officer Role & Responsibilities
- Represent the MSC – Student Programs Office: As a student leader in the MSC Student Programs Office, you are a reflection of the department and our MSC Values.
- Assist with MSC Committee Alignment to Memorial Student Center: Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s goals and year to meet the needs of the department.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year from Fall to Spring.
- Attend Leadership Launch: Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Represent your committee at Unity Dinner: Unity Dinner is a way to bring all outgoing and incoming officers to gain an understanding and awareness of diversity in leadership.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: The MSC Student Programs Office operates under a unique 1:1 relationship between student and advisor.
Essential Functions and Duties
1. Diversity Training: Spearheads all aspects of diversity education for the MSC (65%)
- Creates/Leads year-long curriculum module of DPA trainings (monthly) and education related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access initiatives.
- Conducts on-boarding training with MSC Committees/Resource Teams at the Leadership Refresher (August).
- Updates Diversity Education Guide annually.
- Advises on common-shared experience initiatives focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
- Provides and/or facilitates ongoing training, consultation and technical assistance in regards to Diversity Trainings.
- Maintains the diversity education database.
- Reports diversity trainings and diversity programming to the TAMUS Office of Risk, Ethics, & Compliance (quarterly).
- Maintains a viable social media presence.
