Vice President of Diversity (Organizational Diversity)
Job Summary
The Vice President of Diversity (Organizational Diversity) is responsible for effectively implementing the MSC’s Diversity Plan. This position promotes a non-discriminatory and harassment-free environment by monitoring compliance with the MSC selection process. This position serves as the Assessment Coordinator for the MSC Diversity Team. This VP of Diversity prepares data and creates reports on recruitment/retention outcomes and MSC demographics identifying trends to make informed recommendations.
Minimum Requirements
- One year of MSC experience or equivalent.
- Commitment of 10 hours per week to position and associated responsibilities.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence.
- Prior experience with data collection and analysis.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Strong analytical skills.

Significant changes or additional functions for this position in the upcoming year:
- Work collaboratively with the MSC HR Resource Team to plan and organize a semesterly “MSC Meet-Up” event to introduce prospective and existing members to the MSC and its committees and resource teams.
Required MSC Officer Role & Responsibilities
- Represent the MSC – Student Programs Office:
As a student leader in the MSC Student Programs Office, you are a reflection of the department and our MSC Values. - Assist with MSC Committee Alignment to Memorial Student Center:
Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s goals and year to meet the needs of the department. - Complete the full Academic Year:
MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year from Fall to Spring. - Attend Leadership Launch:
Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders. - Represent your committee at Unity Event:
Unity Event is a way to bring all outgoing and incoming officers to gain an understanding and awareness of diversity in leadership. - Understand the Student-Staff Partnership:
The MSC Student Programs Office operates under a unique 1:1 relationship between student and advisor.
Essential Functions and Duties
1. Member Management – Recruitment: Spearheads efforts to recruit and select well-qualified and diverse student leaders (75%)
- Implements all aspects of the MSC selection process for E-Team, Chairs, Officers and General Membership.
- Analyzes job descriptions and applications for civil rights compliance (October).
- Facilitates Officer Informational Meetings (November/January)
- Coordinates fall membership recruitment; including but not limited to application checklist audit (November).
- Guides the interview process of all MSC Officers.
- Implements best practices to recruit a diverse workforce.
- Works collaboratively with MSC HR Resource Team on retention / development initiatives supporting underrepresented populations.
- Learns all aspects of Get Involved for implementation and assistance to others
- Opens/Closes MSC Officers positions
- Coordinates the updating all MSC Officer job descriptions
- Updates the Recruitment & Selections Guide annually
- Updates MSC Interview Process instructions annually
