Work with the director of Diaspora Education to educate about the African Diaspora through the Homeward to My Heritage (H2MH) initiative, which focuses on student development via experiential learning. This initiative includes: 1) Cultural Trips, 2) Ancestry Project/Speech Contest, and 3) Black History Month Programming. This initiative originated from a strategic plan objective to create a high-impact practice benefiting student development related to the African Diaspora.
Work with the director of MLK Holiday/Special Projects to commemorate the federal holiday by honoring Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., celebrating his legacy and fostering a campus environment that embodies Dr. King’s inclusive dream for America. Additionally, the program manages special projects as assigned related to our committee purpose.
Work with the vice chair of recruitment and retention. The Village program embraces the African proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ by fostering a supportive community that enhances student development. Through this program, students gain valuable insights and skills that positively impact their academic and personal lives.
Work with the vice chair of development and public relations. Ujima brings to life the principles of collective work and responsibility by building strong relationships with former students and securing valuable partnerships with campus and business entities, enhancing our efforts to actualize our purpose and creating impactful opportunities for all involved.
