So…what is FLAG, and why should I apply?

FLAG provides a social community for exploring career paths, developing leadership and professional skills, and giving back to the community through service. 

Through family and committee hangouts and socials for our entire FLO, we give you an opportunity to get to know all forty-nine other members, people who you might end up interning with, working at a nonprofit with, or sitting in your 1L law school classes with. We provide a close-knit community where students build lasting relationships as they discover and pursue their goals.

It doesn’t matter where you are in your journey - just starting to think about law school, wanting a career in government or public service, or simply curious about public policy. FLAG will give you the community and tools to help you take the next step and grow during your time here at Texas A&M. 

What is the time commitment as a freshman member? 

• Weekly general meetings on Tuesday nights that include a little bit of general organization business, followed by time for committees to take over and lead the meeting. Plus, once a month, the “meeting” will just be a org-wide social!
• Committee meetings every other week to plan business, develop leadership skills, and have fun. Your committee can decide on a time that works best for you, whether right before the general meetings or a completely different day.
• Once weekly family hangouts - doing literally whatever you guys want!
• Committee-hosted events throughout the year. Most won’t have required attendance, but they’ll be so fun and awesome you’ll want to be there anyway.

What’s expected of me? 

Obviously, we want you to show up to events throughout the year, but more importantly, we want you to be an engaged member. When our member development committee brings in speakers or plans workshops, ask them questions! When socials or programs plan something awesome, set aside whatever you’re stressed about and have fun with your friends for a few hours! When service or business plan an event to give back to the community or our org, participate and make it a huge success! 

We will have dues to help cover your membership shirts, supplies for most events, the amazing retreat and formal that the programs committee is planning, and various other costs for the year. While we don’t know the exact cost yet, if it will be a hardship for you, we’re more than happy to work out a payment plan or a scholarship. We don’t want finances to be the reason you don’t join us. 

Mainly, the expectation is just that you’re an active participant within FLAG. If you’re ever struggling academically or personally, let us know so we can help you out. That’s why we have families, committees, and FLAG overall, to support you!
