Does Just War Justify Genocide?

Ratio Christi Large Group Meeting

  • When

    Thursday, March 27, 2025 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm

    Add to iCal/Outlook

  • Where

    Memorial Student Center Room 1400

Description

Does God condone war? When Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek, does that imply pacificism? This presentation will examine Christian just war theories to answer these questions. From the early church fathers like Origen and St Augustine to contemporary thinkers. I will use examples of war and genocide in the Bible as case studies to test the different theories of just war and help the audience get a better understanding of how we should view war today and in the past. Finally, I hope to answer some questions about how wars and genocide were justified in the Old Testament.

Whether a Christian or a skeptic, these meetings will promote good faith discussions. Navigating history, philosophy and science, these meetings showcase student research presentations, guest speakers, and sometimes coordinated organizational crossover events.
