Sports Analytics Club

Founded: 2022
Texas A&M University (College Station, TX)

To bring together individuals interested in sports statistics together to work on projects such as player analysis and differences in eras using databases like FanGraphs and BaseballSavant. Another fun project could be trying to incorporate the famous "Moneyball" approach by the Oakland Athletics in a simulated setting to see if it gathers similar results. In addition, host guest speakers who have broke into the industry, teach data analysis programs that could be useful like R and SQL, as well as basics in sports statistics to those who may be new to it. Lastly, host social events like debates on the age old question "Who is the best basketball player of all time, Micheal Jordan or Lebron James?" where one's response should be backed up by numbers to keep it a civil discussion. All in all, most people who are interested in sports have been exposed to statistics in some way like how many points, assists, and rebounds a player had in a game but has never gone deeper than just those basic numbers. This club is aiming to allow these individuals a place to dive deeper into an industry they are passionate or curious about in a fun and hopefully informative way.
